This Project is being implemented within the framework of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan “Greece 2.0” funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU.

DEVELOPMENT AND PILOT EXECUTION OF INFORMATION SYSTEM FOR THE SUPPORT OF THE MEDICAL FORENSIC SERVICES OF THE STATE

The University of Piraeus in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice and in the context of the digitization of the Justice procedures, is developing a Research Information System to Support the Forensic Services of the State. The System to be implemented, beyond the benefit of the digitization, management and safeguarding of Forensic Cases data, contributes to the development of Research in this field with innovative services and applications. In particular, the following will be applied: a) Advanced Human Computer Interaction techniques for friendly data entry incorporating mobile devices, b) Generative AI and Large Language Models to assist the drafting of the Forensic Report and c) Data Analytics for the quantification of findings and knowledge mining, d) Creation of a Database and mechanisms for retrieving similar cases and extracting statistics, e) Interfacing with third party systems to search for relevant information (eg electronic medical file, prescription system).

Project Offerings

The offering of this Project is based on three pillars: the facilitation of Examination procedures, the digitalization of Forensic Services activities and the contribution to Digital Transformation and the acceleration of the administration of Justice.

SYSTEM ARCHITECTURE

The System consists of entities centered on the Forensic Doctor and the Cases. The Cases are initiated upon receipt of the Order in the Department and are assigned to a Forensic Doctor who examines the incidents and prepares the respective report. For the research functions of the System, advanced data entry is performed via a Tablet device during the examination and Computer Vision mechanisms and Machine Learning models are used for further data processing in the areas of Pattern Recognition, Generative Artificial Intelligence, Medical Image Analysis and the general Forensic Data Analysis.

PROJECT PARTNERS

The Project is implemented by the Computational Biomedicine Laboratory of the Department of Digital Systems of the University of Piraeus under the supervision of the Greek Ministry of Justice.
